A new home

by Justin on September 4, 2007

As of today, the Wizard of POS has its own domain, and is no longer considered to be the little brother of Brain Tags. So please update your bookmarks to pos-wizard.com. If my wizardry works alright, all visitors to the old address will automagically be forwarded to the right page on the new site.

You can also see the results of the redesign efforts until now. I still have to replace the logo with something better and add some graphical ’splash’, but the basics are in place.

Please leave a comment to tell me what you thing about it or if you have any problems.

Redesigning

by Justin on September 1, 2007

The coming days I will be redesigning this weblog in order to make better use of the features offered by the Movable Type 4.0 platform. I will do the redesign on the live site, so expect to note some differences in the coming days.

Thanks for your patience….

Preparing for the CeBIT

by Justin on February 6, 2007

CeBIT 2007

I have started making preparations for this year’s edition of the CeBIT show, taking place from March 15—20 in Hanover, Germany.

My company will have a stand in Hall 1, right in the middle of all POS goodness, so I hope I can pick up some new point-of-sale gadgets and find some trends. I am not sure whether I will have the time and the internet access to update this blog live from the show, but will surely browse around and publish news.

Send us tips

by Justin on August 14, 2006

HotlineIf you work at a POS software or hardware company, please add us to your PR list ASAP. If you are releasing a product, email us a high-res image of the device or screen and a spec sheet at the very instant you launch. Our press release and tips email is pos at braintags dot com. If you’re a super-secret spy in the house of POS, please send tips and rumors to the same address.

Please note that just because information is emailed to us doesn’t mean it will be written up - it depends on whether or not your product is a fit for The Wizard of POS, if it rocks our world sufficiently enough to share with readers, which way the planets are aligned and what our current posting schedule’s like.

Wizard of POS

After the latest release of Movable Type, I wanted to have a look at the new Widget functionality. The result: a redesigned version of The Wizard Of POS.

The Wizard of POS

by Justin on May 12, 2006

Ever since creating this weblog, I haven’t been satisfied with the name POS Blog. The name does say what the site is about, but lacks creativity and inspiration. Topday I present the new name of this blog, inspired by an article in Business 2.0 Magazine: The Wizard of POS.

From now on, you will be reading The Wizard of POS!

Happy Holidays

by Justin on December 23, 2005

Vristmas

The holiday season is a very special season for retailers and restaurateurs. It is a season in which they depend more than ever on their Point Of Sale system. Any failure directly results in big losses. Also for EPOS dealers things are different. Their sales go down —few people risk changing their system during December— and the support department has to attend more nervous clients.

The period between Christmas and New Year is traditionally a period of looking back to the past year and making plans for the coming year. 2005 has been a very special year for the Point Of Sale blog, since it was founded this year. It has been a fun year of trying out formats, finding a place for the POS blog and getting some loyal readers.
There are many plans for the coming year: a lot of posts, a redesign, and hopefully many more readers.

Anyways, a Happy Holidays to all those of you who regularly visit the site, read the feed, or happen to have just arrived via some search engine. See you in the new year!

About Jeroen Sangers

by Justin on November 30, 2005

Jeroen SangersHello, my name is Jeroen Sangers, and I am the guy behind this site. You can read a little more on why I started the Point Of Sale blog on the About POS blog page, and a little bit more about me on this page.

I was born in 1971 —I don’t display my age to prevent having to update this page every year— in Harmelen, The Netherlands, and am currently living with my wife MJ in the foggy city of Lleida, right between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean Sea in Catalonia, Spain.

I have been intrigued by technology & computers ever since I was young and jumped on the Internet as soon as I discovered it in 1993. My first web page was simply a list of interesting sites I’ve found, and slowly I started to add features to my site. In 1997 I started posting a journal with news about my life, not knowing that five years later millions of people would have a ‘lifelog’. I still update my personal journal Brain Tags regularly, but have also started some more focused blogs like this POS blog and It’s a Small Place.

Though I have studied chemistry, I always worked in the IT sector. I have experience on Windows, UNIX and Linux platforms; worked on helpdesks, have been a network administrator and did consulting. Currently I work on the international department of a POS & business software company, where I do support, marketing and sales for 27 countries. I am also the owner of a very small web hosting company called BryteNet.

I consider the Internet and web design as my hobby. Other hobbies include walking in the mountains, listening to music, and living a good life.

BryteNet hosting

by Justin on August 12, 2005

Hosted by BrytenetThis site has changed hosting provider. We are now hosted by BryteNet, an experienced hosting provider suited very well for weblogs like this one but also for corporate sites. BryteNet gives support in English, Spanish, Catalan and Dutch, and is highly recommended by the POS blog.
