Welcome to the Point Of Sale weblog — a site full with news and opinions about E-POS systems.

My name is Jeroen Sangers, and I am the author of most of the texts on this site. With over seven years of blogging experience and after three years working in the international department of a POS software company, it was only logical to create a POS weblog. The point of sale world has a lot in common with normal PCs, but there are some differences. Old hardware —black and white monitors— goes hand-in-hand with the latest technologies —RFID—, which makes it a very interesting niche market.

On this site I will publish news about Point Of Sale (POS) hardware and software and everything related to it. At this moment I only have a rough idea on how it is going to be, so expect many changes in the first period. Of course, any tips on POS news are more than welcome; send them to posblog@braintags.com.

Disclaimer: As I stated above, I work for a company which makes POS software, therefore my writings cannot be considered unbiased, even though I promise to be as neutral as possible.

I’m a wine shop retailer who is expanding to include a wine bar where wine, beer and food are served. I’ve seen many POS systems that handle the retail operations and POS that handle the restaurant applications but none that can do both well. Does anyone know of a POS system that can handle this?

Hello Conrad,

Retail and hospitality POS systems work very different. I doubt whether you will be able to find a single POS system that can handle both.

There are however some POS manufacturers who can offer two separate systems sharing a common backoffice. You might want to consult the POS software guide (http://www.possoftwareguide.com) for such systms.

The software from ICG (http://www.ICG.es) also has the possibility to mix retail and hospitality terminals, but I don’t know whether we have a dealer near you. For more information, contact me at jeroen[at]ICG.es.
